Up and OUT!

Torrey is a senior this coming year and we are already realizing that in a year he will be heading off to college. WOW! It seems like only yesterday he was 10 years old, running around in camouflage scaring the neighbor ladies as he and his friends played “commando”.

We are planning all sorts of ways to make his senior year memorable. We’re going to read through Oswald Chambers devotional “My Utmost for His Highest” together this year. Taking a very special trip over Spring Break, and praying his memories of family will be fond.

Time Ticks for every family…don’t let your kids grow up and OUT with out INTENTIONALLY making some memories. A Divine appointment…INVEST IN YOUR SPOUSE?

A friend of mine is a stock broker and recently relayed this story.

He was on the phone with a client who was bemoaning the fact that she was always exhausted. She worked full time and when she came home devoted her total attention to her 5 year old daughter until it was time for the daughter to go to bed. Then, the client relayed she would collapse into bed and start all over the next day.

At this point my friend stopped with the financial advice and asked “Can I give you some personal advice?” “Sure” replied the client. My friend then said he felt led by the Lord to tell his client that she needed to come home from work and focus on her husband instead of the daughter.

He went on to say that there was a period in his marriage where his wife was a great mother but not a great wife and that their marriage went “sideways” for about 10 years. He said that by focusing on her husband, the daughter would be better off in the long run.

The client then told my friend that there had been a few times in her life where she felt “direct Divine intervention” and that this was one of those times. She was going to go home and talk this through with her husband and begin to focus on him.

My friend said he left work that day feeling better than if he’d sold a million dollars in stock!

Invest in your spouse and reap both immediate and eternal dividends.

Whew! I am tired!

Jay and I left Sunday for a whirlwind trip to Virginia Beach, VA. We had the privilege to be guests on Living the Life. LTL is a talk show on CBN. We had a great time meeting the ladies, Louise, Terry, and Carolyn of LTL! They are a hoot! We got up at 4 a.m. this morn to head back home- thus the "whew, I am tired!"

We have had a great time traveling around and being guests on some great TV shows! BUT it is always nice to be home. Especially when it is 101 degrees in VA and 75 in MI!

We have more travel to go before the summer is over....Springfield, MO this weekend and the first week in August, we take Grace to a Phoenix. We will be speaking and attending the AMFM conference and Grace will be visiting a friend of her's who moved last year! That will be a blast for her!

Hopefully we will get some quiet time in August before school starts! I really don't even like saying that phrase let alone typing it!

Well, that is all I have for today! My brain is sleeping!

Hope you are having a wonderful summer! Share with us some of your favorite summer memories!

Blessed to be a BLESSING!

The Laffoon's were blessed this last week to spend some quiet time away at a lake cottage of some very good friends. We boated, sea-dooed slept in and did a whole lot of NOTHING...It was a great break in the middle of the summer and we really appreciated the kind gesture.

It got Laura and I thinking...we were all put on this earth to be a blessing to others. I know most of us don't have a Lake Cottage to bless others with, but we all can still be a blessing.

Maybe it's something as simple as baking cookies for a neighbor or paying for the car behind you in the toll booth. Whatever your means and whatever your opportunity, won't you join us in "paying it forward" and blessing someone in your world?

What fun it could be!

A Moving Night at Lifest

Last night Laura and I spoke on the Main Stage at Lifest. Denver and the Mile High Orchestra warmed up the crowd. If you've never heard them you need to check 'em out. If you like Chicago, Blood, Sweat and Tears, Earth Wind and Fire or any other rock band that features a great horn section you'll love D&MHO!

We were privileged to speak on behalf of Compassion International and challenged the crowd to Celebrate Life by reaching out to children who need hope.

The night culminated with Steven Curtis Chapman giving his first concert since the tragic death of his daughter. Steven's teenage boys are now a part of his band playing guitar and drums. Steven opened the show sitting at an acoustic piano and singing Matt Redmans song Blessed be the Name of the Lord. Read these lyrics and you will know the depth and power of the evening we experienced here at Lifest:

Blessed Be Your Name
In the land that is plentiful
Where Your streams of abundance flow
Blessed be Your name

Blessed Be Your name
When I'm found in the desert place
Though I walk through the wilderness
Blessed Be Your name

Every blessing You pour out
I'll turn back to praise
When the darkness closes in, Lord
Still I will say

Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your name
Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your glorious name

Blessed be Your name
When the sun's shining down on me
When the world's 'all as it should be'
Blessed be Your name

Blessed be Your name
On the road marked with suffering
Though there's pain in the offering
Blessed be Your name

Every blessing You pour out
I'll turn back to praise
When the darkness closes in, Lord
Still I will say

Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your name
Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your glorious name

Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your name
Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your glorious name

You give and take away
You give and take away
My heart will choose to say
Lord, blessed be Your name

In the midst of whatever you may be going through may you be able to sing these words!

Blessings~

I'm not political but this makes sense!

RE-ELECT NOBODY!
Clean up the 545

By Charlie Reese

Politicians are the only people in the world who create problems and then campaign against them.

Have you ever wondered why, if both the Democrats and the Republicans are against deficits, WHY do we have deficits?

Have you ever wondered why, if all the politicians are against inflation and high taxes, WHY do we have inflation and high taxes?

You and I don't propose a federal budget. The president does.

You and I don't have the Constitutional authority to vote on appropriations. Congress does.
You and I don't write the tax code, Congress does.

You and I don't set fiscal policy, Congress does.

You and I don't control monetary policy, the Federal Reserve Bank does.

One hundred senators, 435 congressmen, one president, and nine Supreme Court justices - 545 human beings out of the 300 million - are directly, legally, morally, and individually responsible for the domestic problems that plague this country.

I excluded the members of the Federal Reserve Board because that problem was created by the Congress. In 1913, Congress delegated its Constitutional duty to provide a sound currency to a federally chartered, but private, central bank.

I excluded all the special interests and lobbyists for a sound reason. They have no legal authority. They have no ability to coerce a senator, a congressman, or a president to do one cotton-picking thing.
I don't care if they offer a politician $1 million dollars in cash. The politician has the power to accept or reject it. No matter what the lobbyist promises, it is the legislator's responsibility to determine how he votes.

Those 545 human beings spend much of their energy convincing you that what they did is not their fault. They cooperate in this common con regardless of party.

What separates a politician from a normal human being is an excessive amount of gall. No normal human being would have the gall of a Speaker, who stood up and criticized the President for creating deficits. The president can only propose a budget. He cannot force the Congress to accept it.

The Constitution, which is the supreme law of the land, gives sole responsibility to the House of Representatives for originating and approving appropriations and taxes. Who is the speaker of the House? She is the leader of the majority party. She and fellow House members, not the president, can approve any budget they want. If the president vetoes it, they can pass it over his veto if they agree to.

It seems inconceivable to me that a nation of 300 million cannot replace 545 people who stand convicted -- by present facts -- of incompetence and irresponsibility. I can't think of a single domestic problem that is not traceable directly to those 545 people.
When you fully grasp the plain truth that 545 people exercise the power of the federal government, then it must follow that what exists is what they want to exist.

If the tax code is unfair, it's because they want it unfair.
If the budget is in the red, it's because they want it in the red.

If the Army & Marines are in IRAQ, it's because they want them in IRAQ.

If they do not receive social security but are on an elite retirement plan not available to the people, it's because they want it that way.
There are no insoluble government problems.

Do not let these 545 people shift the blame to bureaucrats, whom they hire and whose jobs they can abolish; to lobbyists, whose gifts and advice they can reject; to regulators, to whom they give the power to regulate and from whom they can take this power. Above
all, do not let them con you into the belief that there exists disembodied mystical forces like 'the economy,' 'inflation,' or 'politics' that prevent them from doing what they take an oath to do.

Those 545 people, and they alone, are responsible.

They, and they alone, have the power.

They, and they alone, should be held accountable by the people who are their bosses - provided the voters have the gumption to
manage their own employees.

We should vote all of them out of office and clean up their mess!

Something to Ponder this July 4th

This piece inspired me, perhaps it will you too~ Jay

Meaning of Flag Draped Coffin

All Americans should be given this lesson. Those who think that America is an arrogant nation should really reconsider that thought. Our founding fathers used GOD's Word and teachings to establish our Great Nation and I think it's high time Americans get re-educated about this Nation's history.

Pass it along and be proud of the country we live in and even more proud of those who serve to protect our "GOD GIVEN" rights and freedoms.
I hope you take the time to read this ... To understand what the flag draped coffin really means ... Here is how to understand the flag that laid upon it and is surrendered to so many widows and widowers.

Do you know that at military funerals, the 21-gun salute stands for the sum of the numbers in the year 1776?

Have you ever noticed the honor guard pays meticulous attention to correctly folding the United States of America Flag 13 times? You probably thought it was to symbolize the original 13 colonies, but we learn something new every day!

The 1st fold of the flag is a symbol of life.

The 2nd fold is a symbol of the belief in eternal life.

The 3rd fold is made in honor and remembrance of the veterans departing the ranks who gave a portion of their lives for the defense of the country to attain peace throughout the world.

The 4th fold represents the weaker nature, for as American citizens trusting in God, it is to Him we turn in times of peace as well as in time of war for His divine guidance.

The 5th fold is a tribute to the country, for in the words of Stephen Decatur, "Our Country, in dealing with other countries, may she always be right; but it is still our country, right or wrong."

The 6th fold is for where people's hearts lie. It is with their heart that. They pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States Of America, and the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with Liberty and Justice for all.

The 7th fold is a tribute to its Armed Forces, for it is through the Armed Forces that they protect their country and their flag against all her enemies, whether they be found within or without the boundaries of their republic.

The 8th fold is a tribute to the one who entered into the valley of the shadow of death, that we might see the light of day.

The 9th fold is a tribute to womanhood, and Mothers. For it has been through their faith, their love, loyalty and devotion that the character of the men and women who have made this country great has been molded.

The 10th fold is a tribute to the father, for he, too, has given his sons and daughters for the defense of their country since they were first born.

The 11th fold represents the lower portion of the seal of King David and King Solomon and glorifies in the Hebrews eyes, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.

The 12th fold represents an emblem of eternity and glorifies, in the Christians eyes, God the Father, the Son and Holy Spirit.

The 13th fold, or when the flag is completely folded, the stars are uppermost reminding them of their nations motto, "In God We Trust."

After the flag is completely folded and tucked in, it takes on the appearance of a cocked hat, ever reminding us of the soldiers who served under General George Washington, and the Sailors and Marines who served under Captain John Paul Jones, who were followed by their comrades and shipmates in the Armed Forces of the United States, preserving for them the rights, privileges and freedoms they enjoy today.

There are some traditions and ways of doing things that have deep meaning.
In the future, you'll see flags folded and now you will know why.
Share this with the children you love and all others who love what is referred to, the symbol of "Liberty and Freedom."

MAYBE THE SUPREME COURT SHOULD READ THIS EXPLANATION BEFORE THEY RENDER THEIR DECISION ON THE PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE.

IN THE MEANTIME, MAY GOD PROTECT US ALWAYS.

ONE NATION, UNDER GOD, WITH LIBERTY AND JUSTICE FOR ALL.
