Which is it?

Okay so we are in some discussion in our home. We need your help in clarifying some ideas. I am going to give you two phrases. Read them, contemplate them, mull them over in your head and then let us know what comes to your mind!

1. the institution of marriage
2. the mystery of marriage

We look forward to hearing what you have to say! We will publish in future blogs what others are saying and final conclusions we come to.

Institution of marriage....it first makes me think of someone being put into an institution. Which may be very appropriate at times in marriage. But, I doubt thats what you mean. When I think deeper I think of the idea or concept of marriage. Kinda formal and business minded.

Mystery of marriage....makes me think more about how life ought to be. I think life should have alot of awe and mystery to it. We try so hard to figure everything out. Words are so lame when tried to use to describe God. I think our theories and formulas can be lame at times too when relationships are involved. Sure, there are truths, framework, all that but two lives coming together as one? There is alot of mystery to that. Mystery in a really cool way. Mystery that can be a blast to discover together.

Ok, I am going to go lay down, that is the deepest I have thought in awhile.

I think of the government when I think of "Institution of Marriage". I think of paperwork, legality, and taxes! Sortof cold and percise (like, either you are or are not married in accordance with the state).
I think of the actual experience of Marriage when I hear "Mystery of Marriage"... more of the ever-changing, real-life side of marriage. The love, selfless side of marriage. Or, on the sad part of it- why marriages don't work out... the change of love, ideals, morals, etc...
Interesting thought! I should stop procrastinating work and get back to it! Bye!
